Dear Pinny,
It seems like yesterday that you brought the leftovers from the picnic to the back of the store.
It seems like yesterday that you danced away to avoid being scrutinized by your futur family!
It seems like yesterday that you became part of our family.
We wish you bracha and hatzlacha and many more happy years.

Dear Professor,
We are sorry that we could not complete our assignment as we were busy at a 40th Birthday Far Far Far Far Farbrengen! In fact we should only know of Farbregenning and Simchas, just think only 80 more years til 120. Ah a guy like you will as usual push it beyond the limit and take the full extra 140 to make it a solid 180. We hope that all makes sense to you but the bottom line is keep doing everything you do because there is so much more that we have to learn from you Professor we wish you all the best on this benchmark Birthday and are happy to celebrate with you and look forward to celebrating them all with you of course G’d willing.

Dearest Pinny,

It is amazing to think that you are 40!!!!!!! To us you will always be that energetic, gorgeous, vibrant, warm and cheeky young student who burst into our lives all those years ago (over 20 years ago Pin!!!). There is an old Jewish saying: "Who finds a faithful friend, finds a treasure." And you darling Pinny, are certainly a treasure to us.
We wish you health, happiness, love, blessings and success always and a VERY VERY happy birthday. We wish we could be there to celebrate with you and your beautiful family; but will definitely be thinking of you on the day (and we think of you often anyway).

Our love always,
Your Australian "Family,"

Rabbi Avi Rubenfeld

Firstly, great idea!

Secondly,  May the next 80 years of your meaningful life be as fruitful and meaningful and adventure-filled as your first 40!

Speaking of adventure, I remember (and thank you Pinny!) when you saved our class and agreed to drive us for Chanukah mivtzoim about a week before chanukah!   You used your "Caracas license" so we wouldn't be charged an under age fee.... then when the van had some technical problems, and we went to switch the van, they asked you for your license, you said it fell behind your dresser, and  you didn't have it. They asked you to prove you were the driver who rented it, because you looked so young, but you couldn't remember the birthday on the Caracas license correctly!  :)
They almost made us leave the van there, and wouldn't give us the new vehicle until you came back with the license.  :)

But despite the drama, we had a superb year of Chanukah mivtzoyim and had to reorder menorahs 3 times!!!

Thanks for all the wonderful work you do in helping Shluchim in an oyfen fun 'hatznei leches'

Sincerely,
-Rabbi Avi Rubenfeld

He has inspired people from SXSW to Snowdon, from the beis midrash to corporate boardrooms. I personally feel privileged to call Pinny my friend.

Pinny

Happy birthday, my good friend.

Of the many things that I enjoy about you, is your incredible ability to be present and engaged in so many different environments. Over the years I have seen  people being drawn to you because they want to be close to someone like you who is excited about life and your many projects.

I think at forty the patterns of our personality are pretty clear. This somehow frees us to just grow and develop our personalities and talents. I cant wait to see what exciting new ventures you embark on. Just take us all along for the ride, like you already do.

Your friend
Yosef Piekarski

Dear Pinny,
Well, you have finally reached the stage of Binah! You must know that while it took you 40 years, Dinie acquired it at birth.
A substantial amount of Rabbinical interpretation of Torah is derived from the relation between root words. For example, the rabbis concluded that Hashem created women with greater intuition and understanding than men, because man was "formed"  while woman was "built" The root of "built," Beit-Nun-Hei, is very similar to the word "binah" (Beit-Yod-Nun-Hei), meaning understanding, insight or intuition.
May you continue to build in all of your life's endeavours both physical and spiritual. Mazal tov on the big Four 'Oh. Lots of nachas, mazal, brocha & hatzlacha.

Gil & Linda Troy and Family

If the Pied Piper was Jewish he would be named Pinny Gniwisch. To me, one of the many amazing things about Pinny is that he can apply his Pied Piper magic to so many different groups -- kids making matzah, boy scouts at one of those happenings Pinny turns into a Jew-baree, adults looking to buy jewelry or wacky postal products, friends at his shabbat table, buchers on the street, and, of course his wonderful family.

Pinny has an amazing, infectious, zest for life, making everything an adventure. With a smile that lights up the room, brimming with knowledge and wisdom that helps radiate the world, he is one of a kind -- and all this before reaching the age of true wisdom.

Pinny now that you are reaching that impressive stage of life, we only expect more adventures, more learning, more insights, more singing, more fabrebgen, more fun. May Hashem continue to shine his countenance upon you -- as you continue to illuminate, enlighten, and entertain all of us lucky enough to know you.

With warm love to you, your special Dini, your fabulous kids, your remarkable parents, brothers, sisters, in laws, cousins, etc and with greetings from yerushalayim eer hakodesh in our old-new homeland

Happy birthday dear brother, buddy, yogi, teacher, student, inspiration, model and friend.
So many lessons i feel i have learned with you.  So much service you do to the world.  You are magic baby!
Thanks for being such a welcoming door and inspiration to sooo many.
Thanks for shining the amazing light of Judaism and its own spectrum through the magic crystal that you are....

My favorite Pinny story ever... definitely the day i found a child on the street and together with G-ds help we helped her back to her mother.  We both jumped to serve and the whole experience was a thing of beauty.
I think i learned more about life in those 10 minutes then almost anything.  Hw we are all just mirrors in G-ds sandbox allowing the light to reach its depths....

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Ezzie Shaffran

In April 2001 I was fresh out of yeshiva and newly married. I moved to montreal and was hired to work at a young internet startup called Ice.com. Knowing nothing about business and office etiquette I turned to Pinny for guidance. Over the last 10 years Pinny has mentored me in the finer point of office attire, etiquette, interoffice politics and many other areas of expertise. I can go on and on about how much I learnt from Pinny but I guess a photo is worth a thousand words.

Suzie Frankel

Dear Pinny,
It's difficult to imagine this kid, as full of life and energy as anyone I've ever known finally reaching the ranks of the middle aged. A big secret....it only gets better and better. I know and have personally heard and witnessed the magic you create and the impossibly difficult journeys people have gone through with the help your love, support and guidance coupled with your deep wisdom. And ever the glint in your eyes! The very mention of your name (anywhere and everywhere) elicits a huge smile and accompanying Pinny story. I am so proud  that after every story I can say "he's my cousin".
I wish for you to continue to see the light in other people and to always find the right words that heal. You really are one of a kind. (and  I still  have very fond memories of that dinner we shared when you finally got your smicha).
Mazal Tov and lots of naches with and from the entire gang.
Lots and lots of love from the Holiest of cities in the Holy Land.
Yerushalayim is waiting it's turn.....

Todd and Shawna Sone

Yom Huledet Sameach, Pinny. Shawna and I are so happy to have become friends with you and Dini.  People often get down when they turn 40, seeing only the negative side of reaching middle age. I say ignore the negatives and focus on the positives, such as:

-          Being 40 means that you are now allowed to study Kabbalah in a chevrutah with Madonna!
-          Being 40 means that you only have to wait another 25 more years until you are eligible for a senior discount at the movies!
-          Being 40 means that you have lived 1/3 of your life! and all of it without ever knowing what life was like without a State of Israel!
-          Being 40 means that your children are growing up and getting ready to bless you with even more naches!

B’vracha my friend,

Todd Sone

Pinny,

Psshhhhhhhhh……you are finally 40… and on The Rebbe’s birthday no less! That makes you even cooler than you already are.   I am the last person who can explain to you the insight that turning 40 is supposedly going to allow you to gain.  To me you are already wise beyond your years and I can’t imagine what more you can possibly cram into that crazy brain of yours.  Your achievements in business are well known, but they are overshadowed by what you have accomplished with regards to your family and your community.  You are a loving, devoted father and husband.  A leader in your community and an awesome friend.  Hashem did something right with you my friend and I am proud to somehow be a part of your life.

Jill, the kids and I wish you an incredible 40th birthday.  Biz hundert und zwanzig!

Jimmy Kaufman

40... so Pinny, how long have I known you?
7 years.
Through Jesse's Bar Mitzvah the chain of life brings us together.
I will always remember you from the beginning of our relationship
as someone who thinks 'outside the box'.
After all, I was not brought up to expect a group of Bar Mitzvah students to be on a bike trip and picnic
in preparation for their bar Mitzvah, but that was exactly what you organized.
You made the process of the Bar Mitzvah one which was literally full of life.
And that is the metaphor by which you live and teach others to live their lives.
To enjoy everything in every way and to teach this to me and all of us subliminally,
and with charm and fun, is a blessing we are all fortunate to experience.
I love you Pinny.
I love your family and in every sense of the meaning,
MAZEL TOV to you and all who know you.
Love,

Jimmy
